Earthquake in UAE: Magnitude 4.4 tremor shakes Fujairah
Shaking felt across the emirate, no major damage reported
Fujairah, UAE - A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Fujairah, UAE, on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 12:36 PM local time. The epicenter was located 50 kilometers northeast of Fujairah City, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake was felt across the emirate, with residents reporting shaking in buildings and furniture. However, no major damage or injuries have been reported so far.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) said that the earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, the largest of which was magnitude 3.6.
The NCM advised residents to stay calm and follow safety instructions issued by authorities. The center also urged people to avoid spreading rumors and to rely on official sources for information.
Earthquakes are relatively rare in the UAE, with the last major earthquake occurring in 2002.
What to do during an earthquake
